James Franco Due To Allegations
"What I can say is that I despise abuse and harassment, and I would never cover or conceal the actions of someone doing it, or knowingly put someone in a situation where they were around someone like that," Rogen told Britain's Sunday Times when asked about claims that he served as an “enabler” for the star, who he appeared on screen with in The Disaster Artist, The Interview, Pineapple Express, and Sausage Party, to name a few.
Over the past roughly seven years, Franco faced several alarming accusations, including purportedly propositioning a 17-year-old girl on Instagram in 2014, and allegedly exploiting and acting inappropriately towards several women, which dominated headlines on the heels of the #MeToo movement in January 2018, CNN noted. Although Rogen has historically been publically supportive of his buddy, who he's consistently worked with since appearing on Judd Apatow's cult classic TV show, Freaks and Geeks back in 1999, the star has seemingly changed his tune regarding this approach.
In 2014, Rogen appeared on Saturday Night Live and made light of the concerning allegations against his friend. “To make myself feel better I decided to prank James Franco,” the star quipped while on the show in 2014. "I posed as a girl on Instagram, told him I was way young. He seemed unfazed. I have a date to meet him at the Ace Hotel." Four years, later, in light of the later accusations against the star, Rogen told Seth Meyers he would continue to work with his friend, yet another sentiment he walked back while talking to the UK-based publication.
"I do look back at a joke I made on 'Saturday Night Live' in 2014 and I very much regret making that joke," Rogen recalled. "It was a terrible joke, honestly. And I also look back to that interview in 2018 where I comment that I would keep working with James, and the truth is that I have not and I do not plan to right now."
So, folks, it seems we've reached the end of a long, stoned, bromance-y era. But hey, at least we still have Cheech and Chong being wholesome as heck on TikTok and that old DVD copy of Pineapple Express.
